Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are these accessories compatible with all Foxwell scanners?
These accessories are fully compatible with our Foxwell scanner devices. Our OBD adapters, extension cables, power cables, and other car accessories are specifically designed for Foxwell devices.
Please note that some older vehicles do not use the standard 16-pin OBDII diagnostic connector (such as older heavy-duty trucks or classic models with unique connectors). In such cases, an OBD1 adapter or other conversion accessories are required to allow Foxwell scanners to connect properly with non-standard vehicle interfaces.
Therefore, these accessories are essential tools to ensure your device can cover a broader range of vehicles.
We recommend choosing the appropriate diagnostic connector or adapter based on the specific make, model, and year of the vehicle you intend to diagnose. Please refer to the product description or consult customer service.
2. Can I use software upgrades alone without an original Foxwell scanner?
No. Foxwell’s software upgrades must be used with a registered original device. They cannot be activated independently. These software upgrades are not standalone products and must work in conjunction with compatible Foxwell scanners.
3. Can OBD2 cables and adapters be used with devices from other brands?
While some physical connectors may appear universal, Foxwell’s accessories—such as the OBD2 adapter or OBD cable—are protocol-optimized to match the performance and functionality of its diagnostic tools.
To ensure stability and accurate diagnostics, we recommend using Foxwell accessories exclusively with Foxwell devices.
4. Do I need to update or change the software when switching vehicles or brands?
If you are using brand-specific licensed software (such as on models like NT510 Elite, NT530, or NT710), then switching to another vehicle brand will require purchasing the appropriate software license for that brand.
In addition to the brand authorization, the product version also affects the available functions—in most cases, the latest software version provides more advanced and complete features.
Before switching vehicles, we recommend confirming whether your device's software structure and version support the intended model.
5. How long is the OBD2 extension cable? When is it needed?
Foxwell offers standard OBD2 extension cables in 3 feet (about 1 meter) length, with some models supporting a 6 feet (about 2 meters) version.
An OBD2 extension cable is useful in situations where the OBD interface is hard to reach—such as under the seat or deep inside the dashboard.
It helps you operate the scanner more flexibly and comfortably, while preventing stress or pulling on the original diagnostic connector or obd cable.
