Useful, comprehensive tool.

Very helpful for the small shop or for anyone who works on a variety of cars. Overkill for my needs (total of 8 cars in extended family). Great for identifying and clearing codes, and for silencing annoying bells and whistles (temporarily, of course). Nice, large screen. One car couldn't be found (oddly, 1 Toyota mid 2000s). Overall, good find, especially with current coupon on Amazon.

Good Entry Level Scan Tool with Professional Features.

As a professional automotive technician I use scan tools on a daily basis both at work and at home. Over the years I have both owned and used many different brands and types of scan tools. I have used everything from basic handheld code readers to complex PC based manufacture specific equipment.

**Please keep in mind that every vehicle is different and depending on the age and vehicle options will determine how efficient any scan tool will work. Also not all vehicles support all the functions that this tool is capable of**.

This Foxwell NT909 scan tool is a wireless, touch screen scan tool with a tablet style unit. The tool comes in a nice plastic case with lots of storage in one half and foam cutout to store the tool and bluetooth OBD2 adapter on the other. The tool itself feels very solid. It is a proprietary "tablet" with a very large, clear and responsive touch screen. The software is very straight forward and user friendly. Once you hook to the vehicle and choose an option from the main menu you can choose to "auto detect" vehicle and VIN. Then you can run a scan of all modules and it will populate a report. You can enter any module and read, clear codes and even control many functions. For example: in a BCM you can command headlights, wipers, horns etc to turn on and off. Control like this is usually not found in cheaper priced units. Live data can be transformed into waveforms and units of measure can be changed as well. This tool has many functions that you may or may not use depending on your vehicle and experience level. The included 2 yrs of FREE updates make this tool even more valuable.

I have always been a fan of Autel and Launch scan tools but this Foxwell is quickly becoming a favorite. The price point of this tool for it's features and function are in line (and slightly less) than better known brands. This tool would be an excellent choice for a serious home mechanic or DIYer and even useful to for a basic professional. I give this Foxwell NT909 scan tool 5 stars all day long.

Great Bi-Directional Scanner.

I use the Foxwell NT909 bi-directional scanner across all the vehicles in my family. At this point, I’m very happy with the functionality it provides. It doesn’t have all the functions of an OEM/dealer level dedicated scan tool but it’s getting at about 90-95% of what you’re going to run into.

There’s no need for me to repeat what their website and the listing shows for functionality but I do want to point out one aspect. This tool is designed to handle “most” (maybe that 90-95%?) of the tests and functions you’ll need for pretty much EVERY vehicle out there. It’s a single tool that gives you wide coverage.

What it won’t give you is every function for ONE vehicle model. That would be an OEM/dealer level scan tool. If that’s what you’re looking for, then you need to look for a different model in the Foxwell line. They do make them and I’m pointing this out so you’re buying what you need. For example, I saw no HVAC blend door relearn functionality in the tool for a 2020 Toyota 4Runner I hooked it to, something I would expect to see in an OEM/dealer level tool.

For me, I’m servicing 3 different GMC models with one being heavy duty diesel, 2 different Chevrolet models, and one Toyota model across just my immediate family. Having the wide variety was definitely of value to me and I do own an OEM/dealer diagnostics tool (off brand) for the GM products so I can compared directly with what this Foxwell will do compared to that. With this Foxwell NT909 tool, I can service ALL our vehicles and help anyone who needs it.

I LOVE the Bluetooth module for the diagnostics port. The off brand tool I have is wired and runs to a laptop and requires rather difficult SW and firmware updates almost every time I go to use it. Although it offers great functionality, it’s a pain to use. The Foxwell NT909 with the Bluetooth is so much easier to work with and it will likely become my “go to” scan tool unless there’s a specific reason I need to deal with the other one for the GM vehicles.

I hooked it up to a 2020 Toyota 4Runner and it had no problem pulling the VIN, scanning for codes, and controlling functions. As expected, not every function available in the Foxwell is applicable to the 4Runner. I was able to modify some settings that you can also modify through the radio vehicle settings so nothing of real value there…BUT I was able to modify others that you cannot access through the radio vehicle settings. Specifically, I turned off the annoying seat belt chime that seems to go forever for both the driver and passenger seats. Nice! Note, I do wear a seatbelt when on-road but I don’t when off-road and the chimes get a bit annoying.

I also used it on my 2017 Sierra Duramax diesel. It pulled the VIN automatically but my only gripe is it started a series of questions of whether it was equipped with certain features (fairly easy to answer) but then got to a point where it was asking me what SW version was on one of the modules in the truck. I had no clue so just accepted the default. It did scan and report the codes across all the modules in the truck so worked fine.

Overall, I definitely recommend the Foxwell NT909. One aspect I would like is if it worked a little faster for pulling codes or commanding changes. I do not fault the Foxwell tool on the speed, though, as I think that perhaps has a lot to do with the vehicle CANBUS as opposed to the tool.

awesome build quality.

This bi directional scanner Can do it all and some. I have multiple vehicles and had no issues connecting. After reading the reviews I searched for the auto updates and after a restart it works great. I'm able to search codes, set the tpms sensors which is great for a JEEP when you want to run a lower tire pressure without throwing the low pressure light code. The included case is great and keeps everything secure and safe. Great tool for the professional and hobbyist alike. The large screen on this version is a huge plus.
